Lexar made the Muse SSD 3.8mm thick by removing one fairly important thing: the USB-C port
Lexar pushed thinness until the connector became thicker than the product it wanted to build. Muse measures just 3.8mm at its thickest point, but reaching that figure required an unusual compromise: there is no USB-C receptacle on the SSD itself. Every data connection goes through Lexar's proprietary magnetic SnapLink cable.

External SSDs are becoming smartphone accessories, and Lexar has taken that idea unusually literally. The Muse is only 3.8mm thick at its center and tapers to 1mm around the edges while still delivering ordinary 10Gbps-class SSD performance. The engineering trick comes with a very obvious tradeoff: there is no standard USB-C socket on the drive.
